War Songs.

I miss Jemma, singing me to sleep, in her husky yet strong and full mezzo that sounded like an alto those days. I was a cleaner, and worked at NOP. She was an elite student, and worked there on the side.

Old Russian/Ukrainian songs about people facing death and destruction- or lovers facing separation. A general, on the evening of what he knew was going to be his last battle. Serene and kept, almost happy and content somehow to leave this human mess and struggle behind. And all of it fuelled by a strong, romantic, soul-ful mood- that is when you understand the nature of the "Russian soul". Half Russian, half Ukrainian, in her case. :-)

Funny, since the owl is the bird of Athena, the ancient Greek goddess of wisdom and the art of war. A very rare case of a female war god (ok, there are some in Indian culture..^^..).

And as for Russia- nevermind Putin. Politicians very rarely manage to represent a country. They are all corrupt. Which makes the soul vanish, bit by bit.
