..the posh job I applied for here in London now has me waiting for more than 5 weeks..when I asked her how long the application process would take she said 'no longer than 3 weeks'. And I am still in phase four of four..

Seriously, this is not a very professional conduit. Sadly, I had five very well paid offers in Britain and Ireland that I turned down for this..
Now starting to send out new applications..SOME, if not, very many, British recruiters are simply not doing their research..they seem to believe that European people are all thick and have a third-world-country background to them. Sorry to say, and I really like London for its sparkle, energy and creativity, but..take a look at the dirtiest flat available in Austria..and it will still be TWICE as clean as any flats here..our wages are higher, our rents are lower, our flats are four times the size for the money one would pay for a place here, and..as much as I hate my country for its cowardliness, conservativism and sometimes outright stupidity..we have serious culture. PLUS... it's for FREE.
